Established in the 19th Century, the Mingo Junction Fire
Department is a full service, staffed department providing
Firefighting, Fire Prevention/Inspections, Rescue and Emergency
Medical Services to the citizens of Mingo Junction.
When requested, we also provide Mutual Aid to neighboring
areas. The Station is manned around the clock by 5
career, 14 part-time personnel and a part-time clerk.
The five full-timers serve as the Officers: The Chief, Assistant
Chief, and 3 Captains. Three Lieutenants are appointed
from within the ranks of the part-timers. Currently,
nine members are licensed Paramedics, 1 advanced EMT and
the remainder are Basic EMT’s. All are cross-trained
as firefighters (10 Firefighter I and 9 Firefighter II),
to the level of Haz Mat Operations and many other specialized
areas such as the Incident Command System and Emergency
Vehicle Operations. Three members are certified State
of Ohio Fire and Safety Inspectors.
Mingo Junction Fire
Department is rated a 5 by the Insurance Services Office.
Calls are professionally dispatched by the Jefferson County
E-911 Center and responded to by one station at the City
Building on Commercial Street. The two personnel on
duty respond to calls and are supplemented by off duty members
on call. An effort is made to have a paramedic available
so that Advanced Life Support can be provivided to those
who need it.
The department is
a tax supported service that bills Insurance, Medicare,
and Medicaid for Emergency Medical Services. As such,
residents of Mingo are not expected to pay anything additional
out of pocket.
In the 21st Century,
the Fire Department has responded to over 5,000 fire and
medical calls. Our fleet of vehicles includes:
two state of the art Advanced Life Support Ambulances, one
1250 gallon per minute rescue pumper truck, one 70+ foot
1750 gallon per minute quint ladder truck, a decommissioned
ambulance used to haul a breathing air cascade filling system,
extra supplies and equipment, and the Chief’s pick-up
truck. In addition, off-duty members have clocked
countless miles on their personal vehicles responding to
and from calls. |
